Democrats Party Has Two New Members: Galko and Rajtar

Bratislava, 11 September (TASR) - The extra-parliamentary Democrats party has two new members: MP Lubomir Galko (Independent) and ex-MP Jozef Rajtar, Democrats spokesperson Martina Kakascikova has informed TASR, adding that the party presidium approved their membership on Thursday (10 September). Galko and Rajtar, along with Natalia Blahova, who joined the party some time ago, will strengthen the party's anti-corruption team. In this context, Democrats highlighted that these figures have a strong track record of exposing corruption scandals and scrutinising the exercise of public power. They noted that Galko, Rajtar and Blahova previously worked together in the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party and later in the Democratic Party. In addition to fighting corruption, Rajtar will focus on economic issues. "Fighting corruption and holding those in power to account are important, but the way in which our economy functions is equally vital. I want to focus on attracting sophisticated investment with high added-value to Slovakia, so that high-quality jobs are created here and Slovaks can earn more. The Slovak economy must become more focused on quality, innovation and added value, rather than solely on cheap labour," he said. Democrats leader Jaroslav Nad also pointed out that the party has been cooperating with Galko for quite some time. "As an MP, he's long been bringing issues and initiatives to Parliament that we work on together. At the same time, by virtue of his parliamentary mandate, he's also a member of the Democrats' presidium, although until now he hasn't been a member of the party itself. I therefore view the fact that he's joining the party as a natural continuation of cooperation between us that has been working well," stated Nad. ko/df
