Defence Ministry Launches Tender for New Hospital in Bratislava's Vajnory

Bratislava, 10 September (TASR) - The Defence Ministry has launched a public procurement procedure for the construction of a new hospital in Bratislava's borough of Vajnory, with the contract value estimated at €922 million (ex-VAT), according to information published in the Public Procurement Office's (UVO) bulletin. The ministry announced the procurement procedure via the SNP Central Military Hospital in Ruzomberok (Zilina region). Bids may be submitted until 8 October. According to the terms of reference for constructing the entire building complex, the total floor area above ground should cover 140,268 square metres, while underground floors should stretch over an area of 122,925 square metres. The scope of the project involves the construction of several key structures, i.e. the main nine-storey hospital building with extensive underground spaces and a technical floor, an energy centre, a multi-storey car park and a water reservoir. Outdoor public amenities and leisure facilities will also form part of the project. The estimated duration of the construction work as of the date on which the site is handed over is 42 months, which will include 36 months for the construction work itself and six months for completion and final building approval. "The planned hospital will be a top-tier medical facility with all departments, [including] accident and emergency, [plus] operating theatres, educational and research premises with laboratories and lecture halls, inpatient wards, child and adult psychiatry, forensic medicine, rehabilitation facilities, a canteen, snack bars, public amenities, a supply yard, technical support facilities, a control centre, and a helipad," states the document. The construction of the new General Milan Rastislav Stefanik National University Hospital in Bratislava's borough of Vajnory began in December 2025 with excavation work. The hospital is expected to be fully operational by 2030. The hospital will be located on a 35-hectare site, which will also include a future teaching hospital, a university campus and other educational facilities. The hospital is expected to have a capacity of around 1,500 beds. The total estimated budget for the project is €1.087 billion, including all medical equipment and furnishings. jrg/df
