Stats: Construction Output Up 2.3 Percent Y-o-Y in July 2026

Bratislava, 10 September (TASR) - Slovakia's construction output amounted to almost €805 million in July 2026, up 2.3 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in fixed prices, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday, adding that this was the second slowest y-o-y rate of growth seen so far this year and one of the weakest July increases in the past 14 years. However, the nominal value of construction work exceeded €800 million for the first time this year. Last year, this threshold was only surpassed in the final months of the year. Seasonally adjusted, construction output rose by 1.9 percent from June 2026. The July growth was driven by a 4.9-percent increase in the dominant domestic new construction. Its nominal value reached €510 million. Another component, repairs and maintenance construction work, posted a nominal value of €181 million, the best July figure in the past 14 years. In real terms, it increased by 5 percent y-o-y, the second highest rate of growth for July seen since 2013. Concerning the type of construction, the dominant construction of buildings increased by 6.5 percent y-o-y. Meanwhile, work on civil-engineering structures (including highways and railway network) grew only slightly, going up by 1.1 percent y-o-y in real terms. The output of Slovak construction firms abroad declined by 13.5 percent y-o-y. In the first seven months of 2026, construction output reached €4.8 billion, up 8.2 percent y-o-y. This result can be ascribed to a 11.4-percent increase in the dominant domestic new construction, while repairs and maintenance construction work went up by 6.5 percent. By type of construction, construction of buildings increased by 12.1 percent, while work on civil-engineering structures (including highways and railway network) rose by 5.7 percent.
