Election26: Seven Candidates to Stand for Nitra Region Governor Post

Nitra, 7 September (TASR) - Seven candidates will be running for the post of Nitra region governor in the October elections, Nitra regional election commission chair Marian Buday has informed TASR. The list of candidates includes incumbent Nitra region governor Branislav Becik, who told a news conference some time ago that he was running with the support of the Voice-SD, Smer-SD, Slovak National Party (SNS), Republic, Right to Truth and Brothers of Slovakia parties. Becik is also backed by independent candidates from southern Slovakia around Kollarovo mayor Bela Halasz. Tibor Csenger, a nominee of the Hungarian Alliance and the party's current vice-chair, will also stand for the post of Nitra region governor. Another candidate is Henrich Varga of the Team Nitra Region regional party, who is also supported in the elections by Progressive Slovakia (PS), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), the Democrats, Christian Democrats (KDH), the 'Slovakia' party, the Civic Conservative Party and the Hungarian Forum. Slovak Revival Movement chair Robert Svec is also running in the elections. Erik Blasko is on the slate of the Unity of Slavs party, while Karol Suchan is standing for the SLOVEXIT party. Jolana Culákova is an independent candidate for the post of Nitra region governor. The combined local and regional elections will be held on Saturday, 24 October 2026. ko
