Banska Bystrica/Bratislava, 1 September (TASR) - Chair of the far-right non-parliamentary LSNS party Marian Kotleba will stand for governor of the Banska Bystrica region in this autumn's local elections while also running for the post of the city mayor, TASR learnt from the party's spokesperson Rastislav Schlosar on Tuesday.
Kotleba officially announced his candidacies for both posts on Constitution Day. "He has decided to stand up once again for all decent people who have had enough of Smer members, progressives, the government of oligarchs and other servants of foreign interests, both in the city and the region," Schlosar said.
Kotleba served as governor of the Banska Bystrica region from 2013 to 2017. He was a member of Parliament from 2016 to 2022. He lost his parliamentary mandate following a final conviction for the offence of expressing sympathy for a movement aimed at suppressing fundamental rights and freedoms, in a case involving the distribution of cheques worth €1,488.
