Raz: 2.5 mn Cars Have Passed through R2 Krivan-Mytna Stretch Since It Opened

Bratislava, 31 August (TASR) - Since the new section of the Krivan-Mytna expressway in Banska Bystrica region opened last November, 2.5 million vehicles have passed through it, Transport Minister Jozef Raz (a Smer-SD nominee) said in a video posted on social media on Monday, adding that this amounts to almost 10,000 vehicles a day, with one in five being a lorry. "If we compare this with the period before, when this road wasn't yet complete, the number of lorries on the original first-class road has fallen by as much as 94 percent. It's a truly incredible figure, and I believe that, thanks to this, life has improved significantly for everyone in this region," added the minister. The National Highway Company (NDS) handed over the approximately nine-kilometre section of the R2 between the villages of Krivan and Mytna on 20 November 2025. It includes almost 6.5 kilometres of bridges, including the longest bridge in Slovakia, measuring 4,374 metres, in the valley of the Krivan stream. This is one of the reasons why the section has been nicknamed the 'treetop motorway'. It was also awarded the title of Construction of the Year 2025. am/df
