Bratislava, 23 August (TASR) - Low-cost airline Wizz Air is expanding its network of scheduled flights from Bratislava with a new route to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The airline has announced that the first flight on the new route is scheduled for 3 December. The route will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, in line with the 2026/2027 winter flight schedule, and three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, during the 2027 summer season. Tickets are already available on the airline's website and via its mobile app. Sarajevo is a melting pot of Balkan, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and modern urban cultures. "Visitors can explore the historic Bascarsija quarter, stroll along the Miljacka River, sample traditional cevapi [a dish of grilled minced meat], burek [crispy, savoury pie] and Bosnian coffee, and experience a city with an intimate yet very lively atmosphere. Sarajevo also offers views of the surrounding hills and easy access to the countryside," stated Wizz Air, noting that thanks to its combination of history, gastronomy, culture and mountain scenery, Sarajevo may appeal to travellers seeking an experience different from a typical big-city break. The company currently operates 29 international routes to 20 countries from Bratislava Airport, where it is based with four aircraft, as well as a domestic connection to Kosice. In early July, it announced the launch of three new routes from Bratislava, to be introduced for the winter timetable: to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Hurghada in Egypt and to Agadir in Morocco, as of 25 to 27 October. am/df
