SHMU Warns against Both High Temperatures and T-storms on Thursday

Bratislava, 20 August (TASR) - High temperatures are expected in several districts of southern Slovakia on Thursday, while thunderstorms are possible in western and part of central Slovakia later in the day, prompting the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) to issue the first-level warnings. Heat alerts apply to the whole of Bratislava region and to the districts of Dunajska Streda and Galanta (both Trnava region), Komarno, Levice, Nove Zamky and Sala (all Nitra region), Krupina, Lucenec, Revuca, Rimavska Sobota and Velky Krtis (all Banska Bystrica region), Kosice, Kosice-okolie, Michalovce, Roznava and Trebisov (all Kosice region). Temperatures in these areas could reach 33 to 34°C. The warnings are in force from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., SHMU has announced on its website. Thunderstorm warnings are in force for Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra, Trencin and Zilina regions, almost the entire Banska Bystrica region, and the districts of of Kezmarok, Poprad and Stara Lubovna (all Presov region). According to SHMU, thunderstorms may be accompanied by heavy rainfall with an intensity of 20 to 30 millimetres in 30 minutes, wind gusts of 65 to 85 km/h and hail. The warnings are in place from 5 p.m. until midnight, or until 5 a.m. the next day, depending on the area. ko
