Bratislava, 19 August (TASR) - The government is set to reconvene on Wednesday morning following a summer recess, and, among other things, it will discuss an amendment to the Constitution, which provides that Parliament could be dissolved before the end of its term of office by means of a referendum.
The amendment to the Constitution also addresses Slovak sign language. The Constitution could recognise it as a separate language. In addition, the draft prepared by the Justice Ministry also deals with a constitutional amendment concerning the dismissal of a member of the Judicial Council. The ministry points out that the current wording allows a Judicial Council member to be dismissed at any time. Under the new provisions, this would only be possible in the event of poor health, conviction for an intentional crime, a custodial sentence, or appointment to the post of judge.
The Agriculture Ministry also has several items on the government's agenda. An amendment to the law ensuring the implementation of certain EU measures to mitigate global deforestation is to be brought into line with the European regulation on the placing of certain commodities and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation on the EU market.
The cabinet will also consider the organisational proposal for this year's International Military Air Days - IMAD 2026. The Defence Ministry, which is the main organiser, is to arrange both flying and static displays as part of the programme. The Slovak Armed Forces are also to organise a supporting programme. The event is scheduled to take place on 5 and 6 September at Piestany Airport.
