Sahara Slovakia 2026 Organisers: Saturday's Fire Broke Out Outside Event Site

Malacky, 11 August (TASR) - A recent vegetation fire that broke out on Saturday (8 August) in the Zahorie Military District near Senica (Trnava region) originated outside the area where the Sahara Slovakia 2026 military event was taking place, TASR has learnt from a statement published by the event organisers on social media. "Based on the information currently available to us, the fire started outside the area where the Sahara Slovakia 2026 event was being held, and we currently have no information or evidence to suggest that it was caused by participants or visitors to the event," stated the organisers. The event was halted immediately after the fire broke out. "The firefighting units provided by the organisers were dispatched to the site immediately. According to the information available to us, the first units arrived at the scene approximately three minutes after the fire was spotted, joining the initial efforts to prevent its spread," stated the organisers, adding that they are ready to cooperate with the competent authorities in clarifying all the circumstances surrounding the case. A vegetation fire was reported in the Zahorie Military District near Senica (Trnava region) after Saturday's (8 August) programme of the Sahara Slovakia 2026 event ended. The blaze was brought under control in the evening, with dozens of firefighters involved in the call-out, which also required the use of helicopters and other equipment. jrg
