Bratislava, 10 August (TASR) - Industrial output in Slovakia returned to growth in June 2026, rising by 2.1 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), with ten of the 15 monitored branches of industry posting y-o-y increases, the Statistics Office reported on Monday, adding that this was the second y-o-y increase since the beginning of the year. After seasonal adjustments, industrial output declined by 0.7 percent month-on-month (m-o-m) when compared to May 2026. The most significant negative impact came from the production of computer, electronic and optical products, down by 36.5 percent y-o-y in June, due in particular to the end of production at one of the key manufacturers active on the Slovak market. Conversely, the second to fifth positions in terms of impact on industrial output were taken by positive contributors, i.e. metal production, which rose by 6.6 percent, chemicals production (up 30.8 percent) and the production of machinery (up 6.6 percent), with the production of transport equipment also going up by 1.7 percent y-o-y after four months of declines. In the first six months of 2026, meanwhile, industrial output fell by 0.8 percent y-o-y, with eight of the 15 monitored branches of industry seeing drops. The most significant cumulative impact on industrial output for this period came from the production of transport equipment, with a y-o-y decline of almost 3 percent, followed by a more than 11-percent drop in the production of coke and refined oil products. An even bigger drop was prevented by a nearly 3-percent rise in electricity and gas supply output and by a more than 9-percent increase in chemicals production. jrg/df
