SHMU: Slovakia Records Coldest Night in Two Weeks, Temperatures Fall to 5°C

Bratislava, 9 August (TASR) - The past night was the coldest in the past two weeks, with temperatures generally falling to between 15 and 9 degrees Celsius, and even lower in valleys and basins, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on social media on Sunday. "Temperatures fell to between 8 and 5 degrees Celsius in many places, particularly in the Zilina Region and Spis. It was even colder in Cerveny Klastor, Oravice and Oravska Polhora, where temperatures dropped to 4.9 and 4.8 degrees Celsius," SHMU noted. By contrast, isolated areas recorded overnight lows above 15 degrees Celsius, particularly in south-western and south-eastern Slovakia. "Bratislava-Mlynska dolina recorded 19.7 degrees, Bratislava-Koliba 18.5 degrees and Somotor near Trebisov 18.1 degrees Celsius," the institute added. However, first-level warnings for high temperatures are still in force on Sunday afternoon, particularly in western Slovakia, where temperatures may reach 33 to 34 degrees Celsius. mf
