Bratislava, 7 August (TASR) - Friday's fire at the Bratislava-based Slovnaft refinery is now under control, Slovnaft spokesperson Anton Molnar has confirmed for TASR, adding that the cause of the fire will be the subject of an investigation.
"The site is no longer producing practically any smoke, there is no active fire, and it should be completely extinguished and stabilised soon. What caused the incident will be the subject of an investigation," said the spokesperson.
He explained that the fire was preceded by damage to one of the tanks used to store an oil product. According to him, the product subsequently ignited and caught fire. "It's a double-wall tank that meets the strictest safety standards, however," he told TASR.
Molnar also said that the fire didn't spread to any other units or tanks. Production wasn't affected and no one was injured. He added that the fire involved an isolated tank that wasn't being worked on and wasn't even active, meaning that the incident had no impact on the surrounding area.
