House Chair Rasi Condemns Attacks on Foreigners in Nitra

Bratislava, 7 August (TASR) - House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) has condemned an attack on young foreigners that took place in Nitra, expressing his confidence that the police will identify the perpetrators and that they will be held accountable for their actions. "A group of masked men attacked young people from abroad. One of them, a student at the University of Nitra, had to undergo surgery and remains in hospital. "I unequivocally condemn such an act of violence. The law applies equally to everyone in Slovakia," said Rasi. He added that Slovakia has always been a welcoming and safe country, and he wants it to remain so. "Just as we want Slovak students to feel safe while studying abroad, everyone who comes to Slovakia to study in good faith has the same right to safety as any one of us," said the House chair. News outlet SME – My Nitra reported that at least two groups of foreign nationals were attacked at the same location in Nitra over the course of two weeks. First, teenagers from Ukraine were the victims, followed by young people from India. The latest incident took place on Wilson Embankment on the night of Friday, 31 July. According to one of the victims, they were attacked by a group of four men wearing balaclavas. One of the Indian victims had to undergo surgery as a result of the assault. ko/df
