Diakovce: Suspected Chemical Leak at Thermal Pool Leaves Dozens Ill

Diakovce/Bratislava, 6 August (TASR) - Police, together with other emergency services, are responding to an incident at the thermal swimming pool in Diakovce (Nitra region) after several bathers were exposed to an unidentified substance that caused health problems, TASR learnt on Thursday. Those affected required medical treatment at the scene from emergency medical services. The information about the release of an unidentified substance at the swimming pool was confirmed by Tomas Havetta, spokesperson for the Nitra Regional Police Directorate. Havetta said police received a report that several people have been exposed to an unidentified substance while swimming. A patrol from the Sala district police station verified the report at the scene. According to the preliminary information, dozens of people are believed to have been exposed to a high concentration of a substance that was probably present in the water. According to unconfirmed information from visitors to the swimming pool, the substance may have been chlorine. Officers at the scene are carrying out all necessary procedures to establish the circumstances of the incident. "We will provide further information as soon as the situation allows," Havetta said. mf
