SHMU: All-time Temperature Record Adjusted to 42.2°C

Bratislava, 6 August (TASR) - Thursday's new all-time Slovak temperature record from the village of Dolne Plachtince in the district of Velky Krtis (Banska Bystrica region) is now believed to be 42.2 degrees Celsius, spokesperson for the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) Ivan Garcar told TASR on Thursday, adding that the data is provisional and is still subject to verification. The new record surpassed the previous highest reading recorded on Wednesday (5 August) in the village of Kamenica nad Hronom (Nitra region). It was also very hot there on Thursday, at 41.6 degrees Celsius. The same temperature was seen in the village of Strkovec (Banska Bystrica region). In Turna nad Bodvou (Kosice region) it was 41 degrees Celsius. "We also recorded a tropical day [30 degrees Celsius or more] today at Strbske Pleso [a lake in the High Tatra mountains at an altitude of 1,347 metres above sea level], with a reading of 30.2 degrees Celsius," said Garcar. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute had previously reported on social media that a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius had been recorded in Dolne Plachtince. am/df
