Slovak Ground Firefighting Module Safely Arrives at Its Destination in France

Paris, 1 August (TASR) - The Slovak ground firefighting module safely arrived at its destination in France on Friday (31 July), Fire and Rescue Corps (HaZZ) posted on social media on Saturday. Upon arrival, the firefighters unloaded their equipment, prepared their gear and supplies, and made all the necessary arrangements to begin carrying out their tasks. On Saturday morning, the Slovak firefighters held a coordination meeting with their French peers, during which they were briefed on the current situation, the organisation of the deployment, and the planned course of operations. They were subsequently dispatched to the village of La Carreyre le Tempe. France has been battling wildfires for several weeks following a series of deadly heatwaves that have dried up riverbeds and left vegetation extremely dry. Thousands of firefighters have been deployed across the country to combat the devastating wildfires, supported by firefighting aircraft and helicopters. Several countries, including Slovakia, have also provided assistance to France in tackling the fires. Twenty Slovak firefighters left for France on Thursday (30 July) to help tackle wildfires in the Gironde department near Bordeaux, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) has told a news conference.
