International Expatriate Festival to Welcome Slovaks from Around World

Bratislava/Martin, 30 July (TASR) - National heritage institution Matica Slovenska (MS) is holding the second annual International Expatriate Festival from Thursday to Sunday (2 August). The meeting of Slovaks from all over the world is taking place on the premises of MS headquarters in Martin (Zilina region). Over four days, it will offer discussions, folklore performances by expatriate ensembles from abroad, concerts, a children's programme and accompanying events. "Once again, the festival will provide a platform for bringing together Slovak communities from abroad with those at home. The programme will feature Slovak expatriate folk ensembles from Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, showcasing the richness of Slovak traditions that have been preserved beyond Slovakia's borders," said the organisers of the event, which is a celebration of common roots, cultural heritage and the values that unite Slovak expat communities around the world. MS spokesperson Laura Hancova specified that the festival will be ceremonially opened on Friday (31 July). The programme will include a discussion with members of Slovak communities from abroad, a debate with Slovak writer Jozef Banas and an evening concert, 'Legends of the Slovak Stage – An Evening of Timeless Hits,' followed by a DJ set. Saturday's festival programme will focus on families, folklore and music. The morning will feature children's folk ensembles and Michal the magician. "In the afternoon, the festival will be dominated by performances by Slovak expatriate ensembles from abroad, culminating in a gala programme. The evening programme will include a concert by popular Slovak band 'Hrdza' and a performance by SKUS Pivnica from Serbia," announced MS. According to the organisers, the festival will also feature a rich accompanying programme, including attractions for families with children, traditional craft stalls, food and refreshments, and an exhibition showcasing the costume collection of Matica Slovenska.
