UNLP Kosice Launches €6-million Refurbishment of Its A&E Department (2)

Kosice, 29 July (TASR) - The Louis Pasteur University Hospital (UNLP) in Kosice is beginning the refurbishment of its accident and emergency (A&E) department, with the extensive modernisation project costing €6 million being launched on Wednesday by a ground-breaking ceremony attended by Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD). The hospital also unveiled the modernised day psychiatric ward of the 1st Psychiatric Clinic and a new endoscopy unit in the Urology Clinic, built at a combined cost of over €1 million. "The Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Kosice is a Level IV hospital and the only facility of its kind in the whole of eastern Slovakia. We're therefore investing where the greatest concentration of acute and specialist health care for the entire region is found," said Sasko. UNLP reported that the project to modernise the A&E department was launched with the support of the Health Ministry in collaboration with the Technical University of Kosice (TUKE), which drew up the project proposal for its implementation. Funding for the refurbishment will come from Slovakia's Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as from public funds and the hospital's own resources. The aim is to create a modern and full-fledged accident and emergency department that will provide rapid, safe and coordinated care for patients in acute conditions. The new layout will improve the flow of patients, help to reduce the time needed for diagnosis and speed up decisions on further treatment. Hospital director Luboslav Bena explained that the first step will be to relocate the A&E department slightly further away from its current location on a temporary basis. The plan is to complete the refurbishment by the end of this year. "The new Type II A&E department will create space for even higher-quality procedures in the provision of acute and emergency care, so both patients and staff can look forward to new, modern facilities with new processes," said Bena. Another significant investment at the hospital is the modernisation of the psychiatric day centre. The project, costing over €550,000, has created a modern and functionally designed environment for comprehensive and personalised care. The new endoscopy unit, built at a cost of over €450,000, is the largest modernisation in the history of the urology clinic. According to the hospital, the state-of-the-art technological equipment - which had previously been lacking at this site - will enable more accurate diagnoses and less invasive procedures for diseases of the urinary system.
