Supreme Court Dismisses Justice Minister Susko's Appeal in Imrecze's Case

Bratislava, 28 July (TASR) - At a hearing behind closed doors on 6 May, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal lodged by Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) in the case of former head of Financial Administration (the tax and customs office) Frantisek Imrecze, whom the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) convicted last January by summary judgment for the offence of breaching obligations in the administration of someone else's property in conjunction with the offence of manipulating public procurement and public auctions, TASR was told by STS spokesperson Iveta Pulman Erdelyiova on Tuesday. The spokeswoman added that the parties to the proceedings have already been informed of the Supreme Court's ruling. The Justice Ministry confirmed that the appeal was lodged in January and explained that Susko had filed it on the basis of a motion, not on his own initiative. The case involving the former head of Financial Administration relates to the 'Toll Collector' case. Imrecze was convicted for his involvement in the allegedly overpriced procurement of information systems by Financial Administration between 2013-2018. The court found Imrecze guilty but refrained from imposing a sentence. The judge reached this decision on the grounds that he deemed the total three-year suspended prison sentence with a five years of probation and a fine of €202,000 - which, among other things, the Specialised Criminal Court had imposed on him in 2023 for corruption under a plea bargain - to be sufficient. am/df
