Capital Doesn't Expect Any Problems with Final Approval of Petrzalka Tram Line

Bratislava, 25 July (TASR) - The capital city doesn't anticipate any problems with the final inspection of the new tram line in Bratislava's borough of Petrzalka, Bratislava's spokesperson Peter Bubla has told TASR, adding that it remains to be seen when the new tram line will be officially approved, however. Last summer, the city council indicated that it would like to have the new tram line approved in the first quarter of 2026, but it noted that this wasn't "entirely in its own hands". "We don't anticipate any problems with the final inspection," stated Bubla, adding that the final-approval process is currently underway in the borough of Petrzalka. Once the decision has been issued, all structures authorised by the borough - that is, the borough's building authority - will be granted final approval. At the same time, proceedings for early use are underway with Bratislava region, which acts as the special building authority for the city's tracks. When its decision has been issued, all structures will have a decision on early use. "Subsequently, the capital city will apply for final approval of the structures in question," said Bubla. Work is also continuing on some of the final tasks. The construction of the line between Jungmannova and Janikov dvor in Petrzalka by a consortium of contractors from the NS MHD Petrzalka Association, selected via a tender process, began at the end of November 2021. The project is being funded by EU funds. The construction project has faced a number of problems from the outset, and the work has also been slowed down significantly at times in the past. The expected completion date for the line has been postponed several times. The tram line finally entered into service on 27 July 2025, although some of the construction work on the project is still ongoing. am/df
