Kosice, 24 July (TASR) - Zoltan Kaso has announced his candidacy for the post of Presov region governor, stating that he's backed by the 'Mayors and Independent Candidates' party and intends to focus on social issues in his programme, according to a press briefing held by Kaso on Friday.
"My programme is based on addressing problems related to regional roads, the development of social services and support for young families," said Kaso.
Having long worked on issues affecting marginalised Roma communities, Kaso wants to tackle generational poverty in Roma settlements.
He also pointed to unemployment in Presov self-governing region. "Every single student who graduates from university packs their bags and leaves. We have many villages here that are becoming deserted because there are simply no jobs, so we have to do something about it," he added.
Combined elections for municipal authorities and regional self-government authorities are scheduled to take place on 24 October. Milan Majersky (Christian Democrats/KDH) will attempt to defend his post as Presov governor, while MEP Milan Mazurek (Republic) and businessman Marian Geci have also announced their candidacies. Additionally, Jozef Istok and Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Minister Samuel Migal (Independent) will both run for Presov region governor as independent candidates.
