Slovakia and Azerbaijan Sign Agreement on Exchange of Classified Information

Baku, 23 July (TASR) - Slovakia and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement on the exchange and mutual protection of classified information, with National Security Bureau (NBU) director Roman Konecny signing it on behalf of the Slovak side, Azerbaijani media have reported. Konecny led the Slovak delegation that visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, he met chief of Azerbaijan's State Security Service Ali Naghiyev to discuss "several current issues of mutual interest" with him. Following the meeting, a signing ceremony was held for the Agreement between the Azerbaijani and Slovak Governments on the Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information, aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries in the security sphere. Slovakia and Azerbaijan have strengthened their bilateral relations in recent years, as evidenced by a number of top-level visits. During his visit to Baku in 2024, Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries. During Aliyev's visit to Bratislava last year, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini described Slovakia and Azerbaijan as friendly countries and strategic partners, announcing plans to step up cooperation in a number of areas, such as energy, advanced technologies and defence. President Pellegrini paid an official visit to Azerbaijan last week. ko
