High Tatras, 22 July (TASR) - The High Tatra mountains could add another international achievement to their collection, as British travel magazine Wanderlust has included them among the finalists in the 'The Most Desirable Region in Europe' category of the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards 2026, TASR has learnt from head of the Regional Tourism Organisation (OOCR) for the High Tatras Lucia Blaskova.
Blaskova said that the nomination comes at a time when the High Tatras are systematically strengthening their position on international markets. "The growing number of foreign visitors, new air connections and intensive promotion across key European markets confirm that the Tatras brand has established itself as one of Europe's most promising mountain destinations," she stated.
She added that this is one of the most prestigious consumer travel awards in the UK. The winners are chosen by the magazine's readers, with more than 200,000 travellers from around the world taking part in the vote each year.
"The very nomination itself already represents significant international recognition for the High Tatras. It confirms that our region is among destinations that attract visitors not only from central Europe but also across key foreign markets," added Blaskova. According to her, success for the High Tatras would also provide a strong impetus for further developing tourism and raise the country's profile among travel enthusiasts around the world.
Voting is open until October 27. The winners will be announced on 4 November at a gala evening during the World Travel Market London event.
The High Tatras have already received a number of international accolades, and, according to Blaskova, the Wanderlust nomination confirms the region's growing reputation among European and world travellers.
