UPSVaR: Unemployment Rate Rose by 0.06 percentage points to 3.97 percent in June

Bratislava, 20 June (TASR) - The proportion of job-seekers of working age available to work set against the working-age population reached 3.97 percent in June of this year, rising by 0.06 percentage points month-on-month, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) reported on Monday, adding that the number of available job-seekers of working age registered with labour, social affairs and the family offices stood at 142,868 at the end of June, which was 1,928 more than in May 2026. Unemployment rose primarily due to the annual increase in the number of university graduates among job-seekers. Labour offices registered 5,983 of them in June, which is 3,692 more than the previous month and as many as 5,174 more than in April 2026. At the same time, the number of job vacancies again rose significantly, from nearly 141,000 in May to more than 152,000 in June. Of this total, more than 52,000 posts are suitable for graduates. According to analysts at the Social Policy Institute, if current trends continue, unemployment is expected to rise again in July. In August, it should gradually decline, although an increase can be anticipated again in September due to secondary school-leavers signing on to the job-seekers registry. am/df
