Bratislava, 11 July (TASR) - A total of 582 Slovaks went bankrupt in June 2026, down by 44 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) from the 1,041 bankruptcies recorded in June of last year, which was the highest since April 2023 and the third-highest over the past five years, according to the latest analysis published by CRIF – the Slovak Credit Bureau, which manages the credit registries of banking and non-banking houses. In the first half of 2026, a total of 3,246 people opted for personal bankruptcy. "Looking at the quarterly statistics, bankruptcies were up by nearly 16 percent in the second quarter of this year. While 1,503 Slovaks went bankrupt in the first quarter, this number rose to 1,743 in the second. No anomalies were recorded in the number of bankruptcies during the second quarter, as they fluctuated at around the same level. There were also no fluctuations in terms of the debtors' education level or gender. In a year-on-year quarterly comparison, the figures are more positive, recording a decline of 34 percent," stated CRIF chief analyst Jana Markova. The highest number of bankruptcies was reported among people in their thirties, who made up a third (33.9 percent) of all debtors, followed by people in their forties (27.8 percent). The statistics also included 49 debtors in their sixties and six seniors aged 70+. A total of 378 men went bankrupt in June, as compared to 204 women. Of the total number of 582 personal bankruptcies declared in June, 528 (90.7 percent) were declared for the assets of private individuals and the rest for the assets of entrepreneurs. jrg/df
