Martin, 11 July (TASR) - Martin local authority will apply for EU funding to build a new gondola lift to the Martinske hole ski resort (Zilina region), mayor Jan Danko told a press briefing on Friday (10 July), adding that the Investments, Regional Development and Informatisation Ministry has issued a call for proposals, allowing the town of Martin and the Turiec area to apply for a non-refundable financial grant to implement the project. "Martinske hole is a natural part of our town's identity. I don't view today as the end goal, but rather as a significant milestone on the path to a project that has been discussed in Martin for decades. Today, it is no longer just a vision on paper," said Danko. The total eligible project costs exceed €15 million, with nearly €14 million to be financed from European Union funds and the national budget. According to Danko, the project is at an advanced stage of preparation, and the public procurement process to select a contractor for the construction work has also begun. If funding is successfully obtained and all legal processes are completed, there is a real possibility that the construction work could begin as early as this year. The town still has several administrative and implementation steps ahead of it, including a discussion of the project by the town council. "Projects like this extend beyond a single term of office and even a single political administration. Right now, we have a unique opportunity to secure significant external funding, and it would be a great shame if we didn't take advantage of it. I believe that with a project that could shape Martin's development for decades to come, we'll be able to focus on what unites us," added Danko. am/df
