Bratislava, 7 July (TASR) - Bratislava will become one of two cities in Europe in which the results of the PISA 2025 testing will be published, with the event taking place on 8 September, Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD) told a press conference on Tuesday, adding that he views this as one of the most significant international moments for Slovakia.
In September, representatives from countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia will gather in Slovakia to jointly evaluate the results of the PISA study.
According to the ministry, the meeting will provide an opportunity to conduct a professional discussion on the opportunities for using the study results in the educational systems of individual countries, while it will also make it possible to identify some current problems and draw inspiration from solutions in other countries.
"The results of the PISA tests hold up a kind of mirror to us. Individual countries are compared in terms of the ability of their educational systems to provide children with skills that are currently needed and important," said Drucker, adding that it isn't about grades or memorising, but rather about preparing the current generation of children for the world of today and future.
National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVaM) head Romana Kanovska said that during the latest study 15-year-old Slovak pupils also participated in an innovative domain, i.e. learning in a digital world, the results of which are to be published in 2027. She also described the impact of testing on curricular reform as significant.
Drucker added that the next testing will take place in 2029 and that Slovakia has also signed up for testing in financial literacy.
The PISA international educational measurement is carried out by the OECD to provide objective information on whether the skills of 15-year-old pupils are sufficient for their successful integration into society and the labour market. Some 6,000 pupils from 301 schools across Slovakia participated in the PISA 2025 tests, which took place in Slovakia in April 2025.
