Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - A memorial plaque, located next to the sculpture complex of Saints Cyril, Methodius and Gorazd, was unveiled and symbolically consecrated at Bratislava Castle on Sunday afternoon.
House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD), who unveiled the plaque, said in his address that Bratislava Castle was a place where the history of Slovak statehood was written.
"On this holiday, we are commemorating here figures who fundamentally shaped the spiritual and cultural identity of our nation," said Rasi. According to him, the mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia laid the foundations of education, literature and Christian tradition, from which Slovakia continues to draw to this day.
The House chair noted that Saints Cyril and Methodius brought writing, education and the word of God in a language understandable to our ancestors. "Thanks to their work, the language of our ancestors became the first national language of the Christian world. Saints Cyril and Methodius left us not only a Christian message, but also a legacy of respect for our own culture, language and identity,” stated Rasi. He added that their disciple and successor, Saint Gorazd, is proof that this heritage took root in our territory and became an inseparable part of our historical and national story.
The sculpture complex of Saints Cyril, Methodius and Gorazd in the grounds of Bratislava Castle, near which the new commemorative plaque is located, was unveiled in 2023. It was blessed by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
