Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - The State Electoral Commission on Sunday morning confirmed that the Saturday's (4 July) referendum failed, on account of the low voter turnout of 16.13 percent. The participation of more than 50 percent of voters was needed.

Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - The course of Saturday's (4 July) referendum in Slovakia was calm, Police Corps Vice-president Rastislav Polakovic told a news conference on Sunday, adding that the police recorded no incidents that would disrupt public order or hinder the conduct of the referendum in any way.

Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - The Statistics Office processed the results of Saturday's (4 July) referendum without any complications or incidents, its chairman Martin Nemky told a news conference on Sunday, adding that the entire process of counting the results, from the first precinct record up to the national summary record, took three hours and 11 minutes.

Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - It is sad that the initiators of the referendum, instead of admitting their failure, are looking for blame everywhere, except in themselves, President Peter Pellegrini told TASR on Sunday in response to the outcome of Saturday's (4 July) referendum, adding that he had to call the referendum in line with the Slovak Constitution and applicable laws.

Bratislava, 5 July (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) didn't take part in Saturday's (4 July) referendum, describing it as understandable, as one of the questions was targeted directly against him. Despite this, Fico didn't campaign against the referendum, since he respects it as the highest form of direct democracy.
