Bratislava, 4 July (TASR) - The course of Saturday's referendum is calm and hasn't been disrupted by anything so far, Police Corps Vice-president Rastislav Polakovic told a news conference on Saturday.
The police have recorded just two incidents, both involving alcohol.
The first incident took place in the town of Ziar nad Hronom (Banska Bystrica region). "A member of an electoral commission underwent a breathalyser test, which showed 1.7 parts per thousand of alcohol in his blood. The man was replaced, and the district electoral commission has been informed about this fact," said Polakovic. The second incident occurred in Ruzomberok (Zilina region). "A man, also apparently under the influence, behaved in a disorderly manner, so we are dealing with this case as well," he added.
Martin Gajdos, head of the Interior Ministry's Elections, Referendum and Political Parties Section and State Electoral Commission chairman Eduard Burda concurred that the so-far course of the referendum in Slovakia is calm and everything is running smoothly. "We haven't been notified about any further incidents, potential extension of voting, or anything of this kind. Everything is proceeding smoothly and without any issues," said Gajdos.
