NBU: Cyber Attacks on Land Registry and Schools among 2025's Biggest Incidents

Bratislava, 3 July (TASR) - Among the most significant cyber attacks in 2025 was the one that disabled the systems of the Office of Geodesy, Cartography and Land Registry (UGKK), as well as the bomb threats targeting schools and other public institutions, the National Security Authority (NBU) stated in its Cyber Security Report released on its website. NBU also recorded an increase in ransomware attacks and phishing campaigns aimed at exploiting the human factor. "Following the compromise of the UGKK systems, several state institutions carried out active assessments of the cyber resilience of their IT infrastructure, particularly publicly accessible devices, systems and services. Measures including penetration testing, inspections of publicly available services and audits of connected devices for known vulnerabilities were implemented," the authority wrote in the report. NBU described the forced shutdown of production and central IT systems by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) across several countries as the main cyber security event of the third quarter of 2025. The company had fallen victim to a targeted cyber attack, the impact of which also extended to Slovakia. "The Nitra plant shut down its local systems as a precaution to prevent the attack from spreading further. The resumption of production in Slovakia was significantly delayed when compared with other countries. JLR gradually restored its financial and logistics systems, including invoicing, vehicle registration and spare parts distribution, but the Nitra factory didn't return to full operation until October. For Slovakia, this meant not only an immediate loss of production but also disruption to the supply chain. Local parts suppliers faced delays in invoicing and a lack of transparent information, placing significant pressure on their liquidity," the authority pointed out. mf/df
