SHMU: Temperatures in Slovakia Exceeded 40 degrees Celsius at Several Stations

Bratislava, 29 June (TASR) - Air temperatures in Slovakia exceeded 40 degrees Celsius at five automatic weather stations on Monday, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on social media, adding that the absolute maximum temperature may still rise. "According to forecasts, Monday, 29 June is expected to be the hottest day. In very warm, tropical air, with mostly sunny weather, temperatures have already risen to values close to 40 degrees Celsius at several stations," stated SHMU. According to real-time data, temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius have so far been recorded at the stations of Mochovce and Muzla in Nitra region, Somotor in Kosice region, and Strkovec in Banska Bystrica region (all at 40.3 degrees Celsius), and at the Kamenica nad Hronom station in Nitra region (40 degrees Celsius). "However, the absolute maximum temperature may still be slightly higher, as the temperature won't begin to gradually drop until around 5.30 p.m.," noted SHMU, adding that the data is preliminary and subject to correction. am
