Poll: Progressive Slovakia on Top in June, Followed by Smer-SD and Republic

Bratislava, 25 June (TASR) - If a general election had been held in June, it would have been won by the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party on 20 percent of the votes, followed by senior governing Smer-SD (18.6 percent) and the extra-parliamentary far-right Republic party (9.5 percent), according to a recent poll carried out by AKO agency on behalf of Joj 24 television channel.
In fourth place would have come the junior coalition Voice-SD party (8.6 percent), followed by Freedom and Solidarity (SaS - 8.4 percent), the Christian Democrats (KDH - 8 percent), the 'Slovakia' party (7.3 percent), and the non-parliamentary Democrats (6.2 percent).
The parties failing to make it past the 5-percent election threshold required to win seats in Parliament would have included the junior governing Slovak National Party (SNS - 4.9 percent), the Hungarian Alliance (3.2 percent), 'We Are Family' (2.5 percent), 'Right to Truth' (2.3 percent), Rural Party (0.3 percent) and Karma (0.2 percent).
Based on the polls, PS would have garnered 35 seats in Parliament, followed by Smer-SD - 32, Republic - 16, Voice-SD and SaS - 15 each, KDH - 14, 'Slovakia' party - 12 and Democrats - 11.
The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,000 respondents between 10-18 June.
