SHMU: A Level 3 Heat Alert to Be in Effect in South-West and South This Weekend

Bratislava, 25 June (TASR) - A Level 3 heat alert will be in effect this weekend for some districts in the south-west and south of central Slovakia, meteorologist at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) Marcel Macko posted on social media on Thursday, adding that this is the highest warning level. According to him, temperatures could reach up to 39 degrees Celsius on Saturday (27 June), and on Sunday (28 June) the SHMU expects temperatures to range between 34 and 40 degrees Celsius. "A weak area of high pressure is currently lingering over our region, brought by very warm air of tropical origin. Furthermore, toward the end of the week, even warmer air from Western Europe will move into our region from the west. We can therefore expect mostly sunny and hot days," said the expert. From Friday (26 June) through Sunday, skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy; it will be dry with no precipitation, and temperatures will rise each day. am/mcs
