'Vision Slovakia 2040' Document to Be Presented on Thursday

Bratislava, 25 June (TASR) - The 'Vision Slovakia 2040' document will be presented on Thursday, head of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) Martin Venhart told TASR, adding that it constitutes the first, conceptual part of Slovakia's strategic development framework through 2040 and that the SAV serves as the document's primary expert guarantor. Venhart stated that the document identifies where the country has room for improvement and what needs to be addressed. "Vision 2040 is a document that outlines the direction Slovakia should take up to 2040. It describes where we stand today," said the SAV chair, noting that it is an objective document. As he explained, it is a joint project involving experts from various fields. The document will be followed by a second part: 'Slovakia 2040 Strategy'. According to Venhart, this will be an even more challenging task than creating 'Vision Slovakia 2040'," as this document will serve as an implementation framework, including the definition of reforms and objectives necessary to achieve the vision's goals. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2027. Marek Radvansky, the SAV's vice-chair for economics and legislation, has been tasked with coordinating the work on behalf of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. According to him, 'Vision Slovakia 2040' is an inspiring document that outlines where the country could be headed if policies are implemented correctly, with the aim of improving the quality of life for its citizens as much as possible. The 'Vision Slovakia 2040' document is divided into four pillars: a dignified life, a successful Slovakia, a sustainable country, and a modern state. "The vision includes all key themes and covers the entire framework of development," noted Radvansky, adding that the pillars focus on economic improvement, more affordable housing, health, social issues, green adaptation to climate change, secure and accessible energy, defence and transportation. The government commissioned last November the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) to draft the Vision for Slovakia's Development through 2040 and the Strategy for Slovakia's Development through 2040. The goal is to identify, based on evidence, the main social and economic challenges, define their common strategic objectives, and establish a framework for achieving them over a time horizon that extends beyond election cycles. am/mcs
