HaZZ: Fire Risk Alert Issued Across Most of Western Slovakia

Bratislava, 24 June (TASR) - A period of increased fire danger has been declared across almost all of western Slovakia, the Fire and Rescue Service (HaZZ) reported on social media. High temperatures, dry conditions and wind are significantly increasing the risk of fires breaking out and spreading rapidly. The warning currently applies to the districts of Skalica, Senica, Malacky, Bratislava, Pezinok, Senec, Dunajska Streda, Komarno, Galanta, Trnava, Nove Zamky, Levice, Banska Stiavnica, Zarnovica, Ziar nad Hronom, Topolcany, Myjava, Nove Mesto nad Vahom, Banovce nad Bebravou, Partizanske, Prievidza, Trencin, Ilava, Povazska Bystrica and Puchov. During periods of increased fire danger, everyone is required to comply with fire safety regulations. In particular, the use of open flames, burning grass, herbaceous vegetation, shrubs and trees, and lighting fires in areas where they could spread are prohibited. It is also forbidden to light fires in forests and their protective zones, burn flammable materials in open areas, or discard cigarette butts. mf/mcs
