Bratislava, 24 June (TASR) - Milan Kovac will serve as a new MP representing the junior-coalition Slovak National Party (SNS), SNS chair Andrej Danko told a press conference on Wednesday, emphasising that Kovac is an experienced local politician.
Education Ministry State Secretary Jan Krisanda, and mayor of the town of Holic (Trnava region) and SNS vice-chairman Zdenko Cambal announced that they won't be taking up their seats.
"I've been an SNS member for over 30 years. I'm very pleased and deeply honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as an MP starting 1 July. I believe I won't disappoint the party members, the SNS parliamentary caucus, or all of Slovakia, and I'll serve with integrity," said Kovac, adding that he wants to address many issues related to local authorities.
Krisanda explained his decision not to take up his parliamentary seat by noting that he has spent his entire life working in sports and being active among the people. "That's why I've decided to continue serving as state secretary at the Education Ministry," he said. Cambala stated that he intends to continue his work in the town of Holic. "I've been working for the town for 20 years, and I want to continue doing so. So my decision is that I won't take up my seat," he added.
Kovac will take his seat in Parliament after Miroslav Radacovsky, who will begin serving as Slovakia's ambassador to Cyprus on 1 July.
