Stats: Average EU-harmonised Inflation Slows Down to 4 percent Y-o-Y in May 2026

Bratislava, 17 June (TASR) - Year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation measured by the EU's Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) stood at 4 percent in May 2026, while monthly inflation amounted to 0.4 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday, adding that both figures showed a slight slowdown. The average harmonised inflation rate for the 12-month period ending in May 2026 remained unchanged at 4.2 percent. Concerning monthly developments, prices rose in 10 of the 13 monitored segments (household expenditure groups), with the growth ranging from 0.1 percent in information and communications, as well as in hotels and restaurants, up to 1 percent in transport. A monthly price drop was posted in furniture and household maintenance, as well as in insurance and financial services (both down by 0.2 percent). In a y-o-y comparison, prices grew in all 13 segments, with the increases ranging from 0.3 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages up to 9.4 percent in housing including energy, as well as in transport. jrg
