Bratislava, 16 June (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini announced that he'll formally appoint several ambassadors at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday morning (17 June), making the statement in response to a journalist's question at a press conference on Tuesday.
"Before I leave for the next phase of military training and in view of upcoming foreign trips, including a summit in Ankara and a visit to Azerbaijan in July, I'll appoint some ambassadors tomorrow. It will take place directly at the palace, officially, as with every appointment," said the president.
In early June, the House European affairs committee and the foreign affairs committee discussed the priorities of Slovak diplomatic missions in Cyprus and Italy. They also considered the nominations of MPs Peter Kmec (Voice-SD) and Miroslav Radacovsky (Independent) for ambassadorial posts.
The committee for European affairs approved both nominations, while the foreign affairs committee endorsed only Radacovsky's nomination. The opposition criticised both nominations, describing them as political sinecures.
