Kosice, 16 June (TASR) - Jaroslav Polacek, who is serving his second term as Kosice mayor, will run for re-election in the autumn municipal elections, TASR learnt at his press briefing on Tuesday. Polacek has received the support of a coalition of six parties, including KDH, SaS, Nova, the Hungarian Alliance, the Roma Coalition Party, and DS-ODS. "We expect that following this announcement - and this is why we're doing it now - other political entities will join us," he said regarding his candidacy and the election coalition. Polacek emphasised that "results and integrity are what matter", pointing to the development of Kosice and investments in projects over the recent period, as well as plans and upcoming projects for the next phase. "Kosice needs these projects to yield results. To achieve that, it needs leadership that knows every single project inside out, that is accountable, and that understands that halting these projects would mean wasting years of work and squandering millions of euros," he said. Ladislav Lorinc, the current mayor of the Kosice's borough of Sidlisko KVP, has already announced his candidacy for Kosice mayor on behalf of the Kosice Party, as has Martin Mudrak as the candidate for the Progressive Slovakia (PS) party. The municipal elections for local government bodies and bodies of self-governing regions are slated to be held on 24 October of this year, although this hasn't been officially announced yet by Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD). am/df
