Bratislava, 14 June (TASR) - In a time of rapid change and new challenges, quality education is one of the most important investments in the country's future, President Peter Pellegrini posted on social media in connection with the awards ceremony for teachers who received the St. Gorazd Award on Saturday (13 June).
"It is precisely the people who guide young people toward knowledge, critical thinking, responsibility, and values who help shape Slovakia into an educated, modern, and successful country, respected both at home and abroad," wrote the president, adding that Slovakia's greatest wealth lies in the knowledge and creativity of its people. "It must be our common goal to make Slovak society more educated, cultured, and tolerant. I'm all the more pleased that among teachers, scientists, and other school staff, we have so many skilled, passionate, and active people," noted the head of state.
"The teaching profession is therefore not only a calling and responsibility, but also an immense privilege to influence entire generations," stated Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD), praising all those who work in education and, despite daily challenges, help shape future generations, guiding children and young people on their path to a successful life.
This year, 20 laureates and the recipients of two special awards received the Education Ministry's highest honorary award for their long-standing pedagogical work, professional contributions, and exceptional achievements in education. The award-winners include teachers, professional staff, and talented pupils and students who, through their dedication and achievements, contribute to the development of Slovak education and inspire future generations.
