CRIF: 587 People in Slovakia Went Bankrupt in May, Down 9 percent Y-o-Y

Bratislava, 13 June (TASR) - The number of personal bankruptcies slightly increased by 2.3 percent month-on-month from 574 in April to 587 in May 2026, but fell by 9.1 percent when compared to the same period of last year, when the total number stood at 646, according to the latest analysis published by CRIF – the Slovak Credit Bureau, which manages the credit registries of banking and non-banking houses.
Of the total number of personal bankruptcies declared in May, 543 (92.5 percent) were declared for the assets of private individuals and 44 for the assets of entrepreneurs. As many as 574 debtors opted for bankruptcy, while the rest (13) opted for instalment calendars.
In May, 387 men (66 percent) went bankrupt, while the number of women reached 200. The number of women and men with university education filing for bankruptcy was five and ten, respectively.
According to the analysis, the highest number of bankruptcies was reported in the 30–39 age category - 191 individuals of both genders (32.9 percent), followed by people in their forties with a 24.2-percent share.
Of the total number of those falling into bankruptcy in May, 86 were homeless, thus accounting for 15 percent. This group included a 79-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman. As many as ten, i.e. four married couples and two relatives, live on the same street in the village of Maly Slavkov near Kezmarok (Presov region).
The highest number of personal bankruptcies was reported in Presov region (130). The lowest number (37) was recorded in Bratislava region.
