Bratislava, 11 June (TASR) - By noon on Thursday, Slovakia had received between 10-40 millimetres (mm) of rainfall over a 24-hour period, with isolated areas seeing more than 50 mm, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) posted on social media on Thursday.
The experts observed very high rainfall totals in the village of Vysna Boca in the Low Tatra mountains (Zilina region), where they measured 80.2 mm. "Conversely, less rain fell during this period over a relatively large area, especially in the west, with only 5-10 millimetres," noted SHMU.
During Wednesday evening (10 June), overnight and on Thursday morning a cold front moved eastward across Slovakia. Precipitation occurred throughout the country, and, according to the meteorologists, it was heavy in most areas. In some places it was accompanied by thunderstorms, with hail occurring in certain areas.
