Bratislava, 11 June (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (15 June) during his one-day official visit to Slovakia, the President's Office announced on Thursday, adding that the meeting will focus primarily on bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Pellegrini and Modi will follow up on their previous talks held in February of this year during Pellegrini's working visit to India. "Expanding cooperation between Slovakia and India in trade and investment, with mutual trade reaching €1.6 billion in 2025, will be one of the main topics to be discussed at the meeting," added the President's Office. The talks will also touch on cooperation in the areas of science, innovation and digital technology, while Slovakia is keen to expand the presence of its technology companies on India's market, including by means of new representation offices directly in New Delhi. The President's Office also highlighted the potential for bilateral cooperation in the defence industry, energy and space technology. "Slovakia plans to offer India its unique know-how in the peaceful use of nuclear energy," stated the President's Office, adding that the current situation in Ukraine and related energy security, as well as the security situation in the Middle East, will be discussed as well. During his official visit on Monday, Modi will also hold talks and attend a working lunch including a programme with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). The Indian prime minister's visit was announced in late May by Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD). jrg/df
