Opposition Files Motion to Dismiss Investment Minister Migal in Parliament

Bratislava, 11 June (TASR) - All the parliamentary opposition parties held a news conference on Thursday to announce that they are jointly filing a motion seeking Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Minister Samuel Migal's (Independent) ouster.
The motion was initiated by Progressive Slovakia (PS). It cited what it views as the non-transparent renewal of the Slovensko.sk website for more than €90 million as the reason behind the motion, as well as other failures by the ministry under Migal's leadership. The session must now be convened within seven days.
"Today we're filing a no-confidence motion in Minister Migal, and I'm very pleased that all the opposition parties have joined our initiative. Minister Migal must leave the post due to the 'mega deal' involving the Slovensko.sk website, where he wants to waste more than €90 million of your taxes on something that the state already has, something that the state doesn't need, assigning it to companies that have been profiting from the Slovensko.sk website for decades," said MP Jan Hargas (PS).
According to Hargas, another reason for the minister's dismissal is the allocation of subsidies for digital transformation. "Migal is passing almost €60 million from EU funds to shell companies that don't even have a phone and don't answer emails. And if you try to check how they use EU funds, you'll find no one at the project sites. Migal is directing millions of euros into such projects that could otherwise go to developing the infrastructure that Slovakia needs," said Hargas. Last but not least, a poor rate of drawing EU funds is another reason for the minister's removal, he added.
