Bratislava, 9 June (TASR) - Opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) MPs will vote in favour of advancing the new Civil Code to its second reading, party leader Milan Majersky told a press conference ahead of the vote on Tuesday.
"There's consensus in society that the Civil Code finally needs to be changed after all these decades," stated Majersky, expressing appreciation that a proper inter-departmental review procedure has taken place.
"I'm pleased that most of those who worked on this Civil Code were experts; it wasn't drafted by politicians, but by lawyers and the professional public," highlighted Majersky.
However, KDH has reservations concerning the proposed date on which the new piece of legislation should come into effect. "We'll probably demand that its entry into force should be postponed in return for our support at the next reading, unless clear assurances are provided," added KDH Vice-chair Viliam Karas.
Drawn up by the Justice Ministry, the bill could move to its second reading following a vote in Parliament before noon on Tuesday. The debate on this agenda item was shortened to 12.5 hours.
