Bratislava, 8 June (TASR) - Slovakia's construction output reached nearly €718 million in April 2026, up 13.2 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in fixed prices, making it the second consecutive month above the €700-million threshold, the Statistics Office reported on Monday, adding that this was the best April for the past 18 years in terms of both volume and the pace of growth.

Banska Bystrica, 8 June (TASR) - The trial in the high-profile Purgatory case involving former top police and security forces officials suspected of setting up and operating a criminal group between 2012 and 2018 commenced at the Specialised Criminal Court in Banska Bystrica on Monday, with extensive lists of charges read out in the presence of defendants including Nitra-based businessman Norbert B., current House Vice-chair and former police chief (2012-18) Tibor G., former special prosecutor Dusan K. and former Financial Administration chief Frantisek I.

Zilina, 8 June (TASR) - Speaking at a press briefing in Zilina on Monday, incumbent city mayor Peter Fabiane announced that he'll run for re-election in this year's municipal elections in autumn as an independent candidate, with top representatives of opposition parties Progressive Slovakia (PS), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Democrats also attending the briefing to express support for his candidacy.
