Bratislava, 7 June (TASR) - Slovak police officers will again be stationed in Croatia during this year's summer tourist season, assisting Slovak citizens to address situations that arise during their holidays, Police Corps Presidium spokesman Roman Hajek told TASR on Wednesday, adding that their deployment is based on long-term cooperation between Slovakia and Croatia in the area of security and tourist protection. "A total of eight members of the Police Corps will take turns in Croatia in two shifts. The first group will be on duty between 1 and 31 July 2026, and the second group between 1 and 28 August 2026. During each rotation, four Slovak police officers will be on the ground, divided between two main areas of operation," said Hajek. The patrol serving in the town of Crikvenica will be responsible for the Primorje-Goranska coast. The patrol serving in Trogir will be responsible for the Split-Dalmatia region. "The role of the joint patrols will be to provide assistance to Slovak citizens in various situations that may arise during their stay abroad, especially in the event of traffic accidents, handling traffic violations, the loss or theft of documents, disturbances of public order, and in the search for missing persons or when language and communication support is needed," added Hajek. The project is part of the international 'Safe Tourist Destination' initiative, which the Croatian police have been implementing since 2006. The Slovak Police Corps first joined the project in 2008. am/df/ko
