Bratislava, 6 June (TASR) - As many as 12,000 participants have registered for the 13th annual 'Bike to Work' campaign so far, Transport Minister Jozef Raz (a Smer–SD nominee) told a news conference earlier this week. Last year, the number of individuals registered at the start of the campaign was 1,000 lower. The main promoter of the campaign is national cycling coordinator Peter Klucka and the Transport Ministry. The organisation and professional oversight are being provided by the Banska Bystrica Civic Cycling Initiative. "If we consider that there are two to four-strong teams, that is a really large number," stated Raz. The competition is intended for teams of employees from the same company or institution who sign up for the contest and thereby confirm that from 1 to 30 June 2026, they'll commute to work by bicycle and record their results in the registration system on the website www.dopracenabicykli.eu. Only "usual" journeys to and from work are counted in the competition. Weekend trips also count if they occur on days on which the participant commutes to work. A maximum of two rides per day can be recorded. Raz noted that the Transport Ministry has supported 100 projects and nearly 250 kilometres of cycle routes from the Recovery Plan over the past couple of years. ko/df
